Why?

Why?
Will someone please explain to me why after an animal species that was once threatened achieves a healthy population a hunting season is open for them? Is recovery the goal or is it the hunting season? In my opinion anyone who hunts dogs deserves to be hunted themselves. There is no glory in killing other predators. It doesn’t make you more of a man. It just makes you a selfish, immoral, improperly educated, intolerant coward. Can you also explain to me why any competition nature gives us (such as any predator) is such a threat to us that it has to be killed? Does anyone ever consider that our own population is above healthy numbers and our competition with ourselves for resources creates the real threat to our way of life? No one is asking for a human hunting season. If we are so superior to all the other animals why can’t we reduce or stabilize our own population growth simply through free will fueled by our own discipline, maturity and wisdom?  Our standard of living would improve as would the health of the natural world around us.  Our growth is no longer a positive thing; it’s a plague. If you cannot see that, you are not in touch with the natural world, because the proof is everywhere. We try to separate ourselves from nature, but we fail, because without it nothing survives.
It would seem to me that once you make the mistake of hunting a certain species to the brink of extinction, that particular animal should be on a no hunting list for the rest of time, regardless of how well the population recovers. I call it making amends for past generations’ lack of insight and restraint. As hard as it is for some people to believe, nature regulates itself and keeps populations in check. Just because we have certain crops and livestock that we’ve chosen to insulate from nature, shouldn’t be nature’s problem. There are other ways to control wildlife besides just resorting to killing. We are smarter than that, despite individuals that try to convince otherwise.
Here is the hypocrisy of our society: After the bald eagle made a recovery you aren’t seeing states starting a hunting season. Does that eagle have more of a right to life than a wolf? If we applied the same management and tactics we use on the wolf to our own species, just how pleasant would the results be? People would be screaming about the right to life and the inhumanity of it all. So are we saying it is ok to torture other species and commit genocide on other species? We’re not just talking individuals. Entire wolf packs have been decimated. Wolves have spent hours in the agony of leg traps. Pups have been left to starve after their parents have been shot. Applied to our own human morals, this is nothing but pure evil. There are better ways to deal with wildlife or learn to live in harmony. Wolf population numbers were never the problem. Our population explosion and subsequent expansion was the root of all later problems. We have created these problems and nature gets punished for it. How mature, wise, or moral is that? A city is never going to be better than an equal area of wilderness. Humans can survive in a world full of wilderness. Nothing survives in a world composed of entirely cities. Why we continue marching down this path of growth and destruction leaves me dumbfounded. Are we really that stupid? It’s a dead end. A path that leads to our own demise.
