When Trees Are Better Than Humans

When Trees Are Better Than Humans

I’m an unapologetic tree-hugger (metal head, not hippie), but that doesn’t mean I don’t approve of harvesting trees. Where I have a problem is clear cutting. Like the once beautiful tree-covered mountain behind my neighborhood. The asshole who owns the side of that mountain is annihilating huge swaths of forest, creating an eyesore, and no doubt killing or displacing hundreds of animals who called it home. That’s not harvesting, that’s just immoral destruction that makes the world a worse place. With all the dead or dying trees already plaguing the west (especially from pine beetles and drought), such systematic removal of huge sections of healthy forest just makes no sense. There are more than enough trees on their way out to handle society’s ridiculous demand for wood and not have to cut down the healthy ones. Obviously money is more important to some people than the beauty of nature, a healthy environment, and life itself. Of course, such idolization of money at the expense of the environment is about as foolish and short-sighted as you can get. The only thing that needs harvesting in a clear cutting fashion are people like that. No one should be owning a mountain anyway. Plus, if you insist on harvesting healthy trees, just thin out the forest. That way you can make your damn money and not completely ruin a living landscape.

For the jerk in my neighborhood and all those like him: Please get off the planet…and take your Industrial Age ignorance with you!
